Welcome to the 2022 Teen Summer Reading Program!
Use your Bingo card to track the books you read! Any books count - your own books, library books, graphic novels, or audio books! When you have completed Bingo, you will receive a $5 Amazon gift card! Complete a second Bingo and earn another $5 Amazon gift card. Limit two gift cards per person while supplies last. To get started, drop by any PVLD location to pick up a Bingo card or print one out at home: 2022 Teen Bingo Card
Stop by any PVLD location to pick up your Amazon cards. If you can't get to the library, we can also mail you your cards!

Prizes
Participants will receive one $5 Amazon gift card when they read 5 books, and can receive another $5 Amazon gift card when they read another 5 books. Limit of two gift cards per person while supplies last. Mailed Amazon cards will be sent via the US Postal Service.
All participants will also be entered into a Grand Prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer where they will have a chance to win one of three $50 Barnes & Noble gift cards. Drawing to be held Friday, August 19 2022. Winners will be contacted using contact info on entry slips.
Participating in any of the Teen Summer Reading Program events earns you an extra entry into the Grand Prize drawing!
Events
Off The Beaten Path Weekly Guessing Game
Each week we will give a summary of a young adult book and you guess which famous story it's reimagining or retelling! One guess per person per week. Your answer gets you an extra chance at the Grand Prize! (All answers will be granted entries whether correct or not.)
Bad Art - June 22 @ 3pm in the Peninsula Center Community Room
Come show off your best "bad" art! Each participant will be given a canvas that's been painted already. With other provided craft supplies, you'll have 30 minutes to make your canvas as ugly as possible. Participants will vote and the worst 3 will win a prize!
Teen Film Festival - July 6, 13, and 20 @ 2pm in the Peninsula Center Purcell Room
Our Teen Film Festival is back! Join us as we screen a different camp related movie. Snacks and drinks will be provided! All movies rated PG to PG-13.

This is your chance to get out (or stay in!) and read, listen, share, and learn, all the while earning entries into a monthly raffle.

- Check out a newspaper or magazine with PressReader
- Stream a movie for free using Kanopy or Hoopla
- Complete a 21-day equity challenge

- Learn something new with our new eLearning platforms: Coursera, GetSetup, Learning Express, Linkedin Learning, Northstar Digital Literacy, or Skillshare, all available free courtesy of the California State Library

Grand Prizes:
- Educational Native and Edible Garden Tour for Four: Your day will start by enjoying an educational tour of the school farm with Farmer Nick, exploring and sampling seasonal herbs, fruits and vegetables. As part of your tour, you will observe and gain an understanding of the importance of the native plants and pollinators in our local ecosystem. You will then participate in a natural dyes art project, learning how to create color with garden based materials, crafting your one of a kind kitchen towels. The visit will conclude with the preparation of a garden harvested lunch, to share with your group at our farm benches. Tour date to be mutually determined by the winner and PV School Gardens and must be scheduled to take place before September 30, 2022. Experience graciously donated by Palos Verdes School Gardens.

Join our librarians for a double feature screening of pollinator films, the PBS documentary My Garden of a Thousand Bees and Disneynature's Wings of Life. The kickoff event for #PlantWildflowers, attendees will go home with a bookmark & native wildflower seed packet. All ages.

Horticultural Therapy: The Healing Power of Plants

Horticultural therapists Arleen Ferrara & Karen Haney will discuss the history and current state of horticultural therapy as well as how we can use the healing power of plants in our everyday lives. Participants will create pressed flower bookmarks.
Drum For Your Life: Mindful Therapy with Drumming

Steven Angel, president and founder of the Drumming For Your Life Institute, will present a workshop of mindfulness therapy with hand-drums—where the power of rhythm creates relaxation, trust, focus, and insight. Drums will be provided.
