Indie Author Project - Share your book with the community

With the Indie Author Project program, local authors can share their work with the community and gain more exposure. After submitting your book to the Indie Author Project, your book will be available in libraries across California. Select books will be available across the country.

In BiblioBoard Library, you have access to thousands of indie books, a Community Reads collection, and more and you'll never experience a hold, checkout, or lending limit. 


Pressbooks Public


Pressbooks is easy-to-use book writing software that lets you create a book in all the formats you need to publish. With Pressbooks Public, writers can create professional-quality print-ready and eBook files to distribute commercially and share through their library with the Indie Author Project. This tool can be used by authors of all types, whether they’re just starting or have multiple completed works, and is available at no cost to the author through the library.

Authors, submit your eBook to the Indie Author Project to have it showcased in the Indie California Regional Collection. Readers across the region can discover your work with the potential for national exposure. After submitting to IAP, your book can be shared with patrons of participating libraries across your region. If your book is selected by BiblioBoard curation partners, it will also be available alongside other great indie reads in participating libraries across the U.S. and Canada.

Welcome to PVLD WriMo 2022!

Calling all writers! PVLD's Writing Month program is back in full swing! Join us for inspirational writing events throughout the months of October/November.

Celebrate National Writing Month with Palos Verdes Library District's Writing Month!

PVLD will be providing a series of writing programs, lectures and workshops for patrons to participate in all month long. The program will culminate in an PVLD Anthology where participants who attend four (4) writing events can submit a 1,500 word project to be published.


How To Participate

  • PVLDWriMo encourages writers to work on all types of writing—novels, poetry, nonfiction, memoirs, etc.
  • Between October 1st and October 22, register (in-person) and pick up your information packets from any PVLD Service Desk.
  • Get your bookmark stamped at the end of each event you attend.
  • Bookmarks (included in your packet) with at least four (4) stamps must be turned in to the reference desk by November 23, 2022 to participate in the Anthology.
  • Published participants will be given one (1) copy of the Anthology and may participate in a live reading on January 25, 2023.  You may purchase additional copies.  Details TBD.

Teen Writing Contest

Join us for the 4th annual Teen Writing Contest! Throughout November, participants in grades 6-12 can respond to a prompt and have a chance to win $50, be published on our website, and have their work read by celebrated YA author Phil Stamper. A new prompt will be posted every Monday in November. Visit pvld.org/teenwritingcontest to participate. Email MDurazo@pvld.org with any questions.

Rules For Participation

1. Pick up an information packet from PVLD Service Desk between Oct. 1st - 22nd. You will be asked to fill out the registration form at that time.

You must sign up in person.

2. Participants must have their bookmark stamped at the end of each program they attend in order to qualify for publication in the anthology. 

3. Bookmarks with at least 4 stamps must be returned to Peninsula Center desks, by Saturday, November 23, 2022.

4. PVLD reserves the right to refuse inclusion of materials for publication in the anthology. Illustrations, photographs, and concrete or visual poetry will not be accepted.

5. Participants who attended at least four (4) programs will have the option to submit their work to be included in the PVLD Anthology book.

Only material written during the writing month programs will be considered for inclusion in the anthology. Only works with a 1,500 word limit will be accepted.

6. Participants must send their material for the anthology, along with a 40 word max author biography, uploaded to the form by December 3, 2022.

7. Material will be published as submitted - there will be no further editing for typos, etc.

8. Published participants will be given one copy of the anthology at the reading on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 event. Pre-ordered copies will be available for purchase at the anthology reading event.
