Procedures for Borrowing Libraries

The Palos Verdes Library District willingly shares its resources with other U.S. libraries.  We do not charge for loans and are part of the LVIS (Libraries Very Interested in Sharing) network.  Our preferred request transmission is the OCLC system (symbol PVL), but we will also accept requests through e-mail, ALA forms, or fax transmissions.

We DO NOT loan:

  • Audio books
  • CDs
  • DVDs
  • Microfilm
  • Periodical issues
  • Reference materials
  • Videocassettes

However, we will make photocopies of non-circulating printed materials on demand and at no charge.

Materials are loaned for 35 days from date of shipping, and are shipped through the United States Post Office.  One two-week renewal may be requested if there is no reserve on the item.

The Library operates under the National Interlibrary Loan Code rules which state that the borrowing library is responsible for the borrowed material from the time it leaves the lending library until it is safely returned to that lender.

Checks for lost items should be made payable to PVLD, or Palos Verdes Library District, and mailed to the District at 701 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills Estates, CA  90274.

For more information call 310-377-9584, ext 239, or send email to ill@pvld.org.
