Stage & Film Music of the 1920's Featuring JJ's Sunset Syncopators
Text
The Palos Verdes Library District and the Miraleste Library Advisory Committee present a memorable evening of music, “Stage & Film Music of the 1920's,” featuring the Peninsula’s ever-popular, JJ’s Sunset Syncopators at the Miraleste Library on Sunday, June 29, at 7pm. About the music: The era from 1918 to 1931 was one of great creativity and changes in the American musical scene. While still centered in New York City, music became the public's domain with the advent of radio and sound movies in the mid-1920's. This year's concert will highlight songs and stories that evoke that Golden Age. This is the eighth year that JJ's Sunset Syncopators have presented free concerts at Miraleste Library. This seven-piece band of exceptional musicians will play the original scores of songs from 1918 to 1930. The leader, Jim Jones of Rancho Palos Verdes, is well known locally for adding his stories about the musicians and social customs that were the basis for that era's music. In addition to this fine musical evening, enjoy refreshments and fabulous views of the L.A. Harbor. The program will be free and open to the public. The Miraleste Library is located at 29089 Palos Verdes Drive East in Rancho Palos Verdes. Due to limited parking, carpooling is suggested. For current program information or call 310-377-9584, ext. 453.
