In Jackson, Mississippi, in 1962, there are lines that are not crossed. With the civil rights movement exploding all around them, three women start a movement of their own, forever changing a town and the way women--black and white, mothers and daughters--view one another.

The Help is a personal story of race and relationships in America. It is set in the recent past, showing how the pain of racism is still a fresh wound. I was surprised that the author wrote from the perspective of a black woman, but it seems she really captured the essence, drawn from the relationships she experienced as a child. You'll love this book, I hope.
