PVLD is excited to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Teen Annex branch on September 22 at 2 P.M. The Annex also has a new location at 655 Deep Valley Drive, suite #175 which is just across the street from the Peninsula Center Library.
The celebration will be held from 2-4 pm at the Annex and will feature pizza, a special movie showing, a video game tournament, other fun activities and of course—a birthday cake! Anyone is welcome to visit and 6th-12th graders are invited to stay and discover.
Since opening its doors in 2006, The Annex has been a branch of the Palos Verdes Library District solely dedicated to providing teens in grades 6-12 with a safe, welcoming, and fun space to read, do homework, engage in a variety of multimedia activities and just hang out with friends. There are public computers available along with a collection of high interest books, manga, comics, and magazines for checkout. Equipped with 3 TVs and several gaming consoles, the Annex welcomes over 4,000 teens annually. On any given day, they may be playing video games on the PS4, PS3 and WiiU or watching their favorite TV series on Netflix, or enjoying an RPG like Dungeons and Dragons. Thursday nights are Movie Nights as the Annex staff chooses a special movie and pops popcorn on the Annex popcorn machine.
Beloved by teens in PV for ten years and counting, the Annex is also viewed as an example of how to create space for teens by the library world and has been featured in professional publications like VOYA and Teen Spaces.
The Annex is open 3-7 pm Monday through Thursday during the school year and 1-5 pm Monday through Thursday during the summer break. Plans are underway to extend the hours to Fridays as well. The Annex is a unique space and its current location is temporary until a more permanent building can be built on the main library property. Stay tuned for more on those plans as we move forward!
